da apostaganha: Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan claims Harry Kane could leave Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of bigger and better things after their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were ended.
da stake casino: Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the pundit insists Kane has a “massive decision” to make about his long-term future.
Spurs are firmly in the mix for a Europa League place after they beat Newcastle 3-1 to mark Jose Mourinho’s first win at St James’ Park, while both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United also in contention with only two games remaining.
Mourinho’s men can no longer qualify for Champions League football next season, sitting seven points behind fourth with just two games left. They could still qualify for the Europa League, but may have to win both of their remaining games to fend off challenges from Sheffield United, Wolves and Arsenal (BBC Sport).
Whelan believes Kane will have to reconsider his future in north London if he wants to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
Whelan told assistant editor Russell Edge “he’s got a massive decision to make has Harry Kane because they’re not going to get in the Champions League positions.
“Right now they’re going to be struggling to get into European football and that could be a massive decision on Harry Kane – can he afford to waste another season at a club that’s not going to be playing in the Champions League?
“Most of the top players in the world are in that competition and he’s a top player. That is something we need to look at very closely and something he needs to make a decision on. Trying to hold onto a player, for Spurs that is going to be very difficult when you’re not in the Champions League.”
It is hard to argue with Whelan here, as Kane has made it clear he wants to win trophies sooner rather than later.
Club legend Teddy Sheringham has tipped his countryman to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium within the next two years.
Sheringham actually found himself in a similar position to the striker towards the end of the last century, before he famously moved to Manchester United, picking up three Premier League titles, the Champions League and FA Cup as a result.
Kane has attracted attention from a number of European clubs for his performances over the years, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils, and he has recently repeated he wants to win silverware, while The Telegraph reported he will weigh up his options in the summer.
The 26-year-old is the club’s top scorer this season, although it seems his efforts are seemingly in vain.
Kane has still not won a single trophy with the club he joined as a youngster, despite the fact Mauricio Pochettino’s men came close to Champions League glory last year. To make matters even worse, Mourinho’s side are set to finish another season without a trophy.
While Daniel Levy has moved to ward off any potential suitors by slapping a £200m price tag on the academy product, it is difficult to believe he will be able to resist the temptations of joining a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid in the future, if this barren run continues.
