da 888casino: After two crazy summers where Liverpool went big in the transfer market, it is looking like Jurgen Klopp is going to be toning down with the spending this year.
da pinup bet: With the Reds coming inches away from the Premier League title and claiming their sixth Champions League trophy last season, it makes sense as to why the German boss would find it necessary to take a transfer window off spending big name players with Liverpool showing to the world that they have one of the best squads in football, but that doesn’t mean no new signings will be made, far from it, in fact.
According to the Telegraph, Liverpool have beaten the likes of Bayern Munich and Ajax to the signing of PEC Zwolle teenager Sepp van den Berg, who has enjoyed a breakout season with the Eredivisie outlet after making 20 appearances for the club in all competitions per Transfermarkt, and this deal has shades similar to the one the Reds pulled off in 2015 with Joe Gomez.
The 18-year-old was signed for pennies by the Reds, a reported £3.5 million as per BBC Sport, and the teenager quickly established himself as first-team player before an ACL injury cut Gomez’s season short, and there is reason to believe Van den Berg could have the same impact at Liverpool.
Comparing the 17-year-old defender’s stats with Gomez’s for this season via WhoScored, it’s easy to see that the Netherlands U-19 international statistically enjoyed a better season than the Liverpool youngster, with Van den Berg averaging more tackles per 90 minutes than the England centre-back with 1.3 to 1.1, as well as fewer fouls conceded per game at 0.3 to 0.8.
In fact, the only category where Gomez does do better than Van den Berg in is interceptions per game with 0.9 to the Dutchman’s 0.8, hardly a massive difference.
Van den Berg is likely to cost Liverpool around the same what Gomez cost the club, with the report from the Telegraph claiming that Sampdoria had a bid of £2.25 million rejected for the centre-back in January, and if Klopp is willing to give the 17-year-old a chance next season there is a chance Liverpool can find a second defensive gem who cost the club little-to-nothing.
Liverpool fans, can Van den Berg have a similar impact as Gomez at the club? Let us know!
