da bwin: After a second placed finish in the Premier League last season and news linking the Gunners with a move for the ever-prolific Jamie Vardy, it’s a pretty decent time to be an Arsenal supporter.
da dobrowin: They’ve already added talented Swiss star Granit Xhaka to their ranks and, for the first time in a while, there’s a real case for optimism down at the Emirates.
But a group of players whose futures aren’t quite so assured are some of the youngsters in the ranks, who have been shafted to the side due to some high-profile signings.
So with that in mind, here’s FIVE Arsenal youngsters that would thrive with loan deals next season…
Calum Chambers
After signing for the Gunners from Southampton back in 2014, Calum Chambers impressed in his first season at the Emirates. But following the emergence of Hector Bellerin at right-back, the 21-year-old has really struggled for game time.
12 Premier League appearances in a season isn’t enough for a player of his quality and if he wants to impress on the international scale, he needs more game time- hence why a loan move could work.
He’s more than good enough to play in the Premier League but the Gunners won’t want him to sign for a rival so a move to a mid-table club might be on the cards.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
It’s been a real struggle for this England man over the past few years, and he’s failed to hold down a first-team berth at the Emirates for a while now.
He made 22 appearances in the Premier League last season, but as many of those came from the bench, ‘The Ox’ may feel it’s time to get his head down elsewhere in order to try and impress his manager from afar.
He only managed to hit the net twice last season, too, suggesting that a move elsewhere might be better for his development.
Alex Iwobi
Nine goals in the Under-21’s final nine games of the season warranted a promotion to the first-team from the academy for exciting prospect Alex Iwobi, and he impressed in his breakthrough, scoring goals against Stoke City, Watford.
But with competition so intense up front at the Emirates, a loan move might be the best option. Again, he’s proved he’s good enough to play in the Premier League, so expect to see a lot of Iwobi again next season.
Gabriel
Feisty centre-back Garbiel is another name that has struggled for game time this season. He’s one of those that is stuck on the bench due to Wenger’s preference to play Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker and he’s really struggling to break through this pairing.
Whilst Arsene may be reluctant to let him leave, a loan move would really suit Gabriel in terms of game time.
Mohamed Elneny
Elneny hasn’t been at the Emirates long, but he would have liked to have featured more for his side than he did after joining from Basel in January. 11 Premier League appearances may not have been as much as he would have pictured when he first signed on the dotted line and a loan move could be in the offing.
Destination? A return to former club Basel might be a good shout- Elneny spent four successful years with the Swiss giants.
