da aviator aposta: Jordan Veretout was sent out to St Etienne on loan last August after failing to make an impact at Aston Villa.
da 888: The Frenchman played just one season for the Villans before he packed up his things, and it was a memorable one for the wrong reasons.
For the club it was dismal as they were relegated to the Championship not long after manager Remi Garde was sacked following a four-month spell in charge.
Veretout made 25 appearances, 21 of which were starts in the Premier League, but he was not deemed important enough for the squad when Villa began their campaign in the second tier.
This season, the midfielder has made 32 appearances in all competitions and featured prominently in St Etienne’s Europa League campaign, which was ended by Manchester United in the last-32 stage recently.
Veretout has also nabbed two Ligue 1 goals and produced two assists in the top flight, and considering Villa’s position in the table at the moment, some fans are keen for the midfielder to return.
It is highly unlikely that the Midlands outfit will return to the Premier League next season because as it stands they sit 15th in the Championship, 16 points behind the playoff spots.
The positive news for Steve Bruce and his side is that they ended a run of five straight league defeats to seal back-to-back triumphs over Derby County and Bristol City.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, some Villa fans used the club’s ‘happy birthday’ tweet to Veretout to urge the board to bring back the midfielder.
